First, check whether you are getting the right traffic
Before touching the design, I always look at who is actually arriving. A website can show thousands of visitors a month and still bring zero enquiries, simply because those visitors were never potential customers in the first place.
Open Google Search Console and go to the Performance report. Google’s own Search Console Performance report guide explains how to see the exact queries people typed before clicking through to your site. Sort by clicks and read the top 50 queries honestly.
You will usually find one of these patterns:
- Informational traffic only. People searching “what is GST input credit” will read your article and leave. People searching “GST consultant in Bhubaneswar” might hire you.
- Wrong location. A clinic in Brahmapur ranking for searches from Delhi or the USA gets visits that can never turn into bookings.
- Brand or job searches. A lot of traffic can be people looking for your phone number, existing customers logging in, or job seekers.
- Accidental rankings. One old blog post ranking for a loosely related term can inflate your numbers without adding any buyers.
If most of your clicks fall into these buckets, the problem is not your website. It is your keyword targeting. The fix is to build pages around searches with buying intent, which is exactly what good SEO services should focus on from day one.
Your page does not answer the visitor's question in five seconds
When someone lands on a page, they decide very quickly whether they are in the right place. If your homepage opens with a large slider, a vague slogan like “Excellence in Every Step” and a stock photo of a handshake, most visitors will not scroll to find out what you actually do.
The top of every key page should answer three questions without any scrolling:
- What do you offer? Plain words, not clever ones. “Interior design for homes and offices in Pune” beats “Designing Dreams”.
- Who is it for and where? Mention the city, region or the type of client you serve. International buyers want to know you work with businesses in their country.
- What should I do next? One clear button or link: call, WhatsApp, book a visit, request a quote.
A quick test I use: show the page on your phone to someone who does not know your business, take it away after five seconds and ask what you sell. If they cannot tell you, your visitors cannot either.

Weak or hidden calls to action
A surprising number of business websites make it hard to get in touch. The phone number sits in tiny text in the footer, the contact form is three clicks away, or the only option is an email address that nobody checks.
Here is what I check on every site audit:
- Is there a call to action on every service page? Not only on the contact page. Someone ready to buy should never have to hunt.
- Is the phone number tappable on mobile? It should open the dialler with one tap.
- Is WhatsApp available? For Indian customers especially, a WhatsApp button often feels easier than filling in a form or calling a stranger.
- Is the call to action specific? “Get a free quote in 24 hours” works better than “Submit”.
- Is there only one main action per section? Five competing buttons create hesitation.
Also think about visitors who are not ready yet. Someone comparing options might not call today, but they may download a price guide, save your WhatsApp number or check your reviews. Give them a smaller next step so you do not lose them completely.
Contact forms and speed that quietly kill enquiries
Sometimes the leads are trying to come in, and the website is stopping them. These are the technical issues I find most often.
Broken or overlong forms
Fill in your own contact form today, on your phone. Check that the message actually reaches your inbox and not the spam folder. I have seen forms that silently failed for months after a plugin update. Also cut the form down: name, phone or email, and a short message are usually enough. Every extra field, such as company size, budget or “how did you hear about us”, is one more reason to give up.
Slow mobile pages
Most of your visitors in India are on mobile, often on patchy connections. If a page takes a long time to load, people go back to Google and click a competitor. Think with Google has written for years about how improving mobile site speed affects user experience and business results. The usual culprits are uncompressed images, heavy page builders, too many plugins and cheap shared hosting.
Pop-ups and clutter
A full-screen pop-up that appears the moment someone lands, on a small phone screen, is one of the fastest ways to lose a visitor. If you use pop-ups, delay them and make them easy to close.
No reasons to trust you
A visitor who has never heard of you needs evidence before they share their phone number. If your site looks like it could belong to anyone, they will choose the competitor who looks more real.
Trust signals that work well for small and medium businesses:
- Your real name, photo and the faces of your team, not stock images.
- A visible address and a link to your Google Business Profile, especially for local businesses.
- Genuine reviews, ideally pulled from Google so visitors know they are real.
- Photos of real work: completed projects, your clinic, your shop, your kitchen.
- Clear information on how you work, what happens after someone contacts you, and roughly how long things take.
- Certifications, registrations or memberships that matter in your industry.
Never invent testimonials or copy reviews from elsewhere. Apart from the ethical problem, customers are good at spotting fake praise, and it damages trust far more than having no reviews at all. If you serve local customers, building real reviews is part of a wider plan I cover in how to rank your Google Business Profile in the Maps top 3.
Service pages that are too thin to convert
Many sites have one “Services” page with six bullet points. That page cannot rank well for any single service, and it cannot convince anyone either. A buyer looking for a wedding photographer wants to see wedding work, packages, the process and answers to their worries, not a list that also includes passport photos.
Each main service deserves its own page with:
- A clear heading that matches how people search, for example “Physiotherapy for back pain in Cuttack”.
- Who the service is for and the problems it solves.
- What is included and the steps of your process.
- An indication of price, even a starting range, if your industry allows it. Visitors who see “contact for price” everywhere often assume it is expensive and leave.
- Answers to the five or six questions customers ask you on the phone every week.
- A call to action at the top, in the middle and at the end.
This is often where a redesign earns its money. If your current site was built years ago on a template that makes this hard, my website design and development work is built around exactly this structure: pages that rank and pages that persuade.
Practical next steps to start getting leads
You do not need to fix everything at once. Here is the order I would work in, roughly from quickest to slowest:
- Test your contact form and phone links today. This takes ten minutes and sometimes solves the whole problem.
- Add a clear call to action and WhatsApp button to every service page. A few hours of work.
- Rewrite the top section of your homepage and main service pages so they say what you do, for whom and where. Half a day to a day.
- Review your Search Console queries and list the buying-intent searches you are not yet targeting. A couple of hours.
- Fix mobile speed and add trust signals. This can take a few days, depending on your site and hosting.
- Build proper service pages for your most profitable services. Plan for a few weeks, and remember that new pages need time to rank, as I explain in how long does SEO take.
Set up enquiry tracking as you go, even if it is just a simple sheet noting where each call or WhatsApp message came from. Without it, you will never know which changes worked.
If you would like a second pair of eyes, I am happy to look at your site. Request a quick SEO audit at technosubrat.in/contact or message me on WhatsApp, and I will tell you where your visitors are dropping off and what I would fix first. You can also compare my SEO packages if you already know you want ongoing help. I work with businesses across India as well as international clients.
